Travel Restrictions Due to Corona Virus: What To Know

It is not only the US that has closed the borders. Even important neighbouring countries (almost) do not allow anyone to enter. What this means in detail – an overview.

Travel Restrictions Country in Corona Virus Situation

Denmark

The northern neighbour closed its border with Germany and Sweden at midday on Saturday. Foreigners are only allowed to enter the country for special reasons. The closure is expected to last until 13 April and will also apply to airports. Excluded are truck deliveries of important goods such as medicines and food.

Poland

Poland will introduce checks at the borders with Schengen countries from midnight on Sunday night. Foreigners are not allowed into the country for the next ten days. Excluded are people residing in Poland, commuters, spouses of Polish nationals, diplomats and truck drivers transporting goods to the country. International train and air traffic will even be suspended for two weeks.

Czech

The Czech Republic has introduced fixed controls at the border with Germany and Austria since Saturday. Germans, Austrians, Swiss and citizens of another twelve risk states are no longer allowed to enter. Conversely, Czechs are not allowed to leave for Germany and Austria. Exceptions apply to Germans residing in the Czech Republic as well as commuters in a strip of 100 kilometres on both sides of the border. From Monday, the entry ban will be extended to all foreigners.

Turkey

Since Saturday morning, Turkey has banned citizens from nine European countries from entering the country – initially indefinitely. In addition to Germany, these include Austria, Spain, France, Denmark and Sweden. Flights to the nine countries will be suspended until 17 April.
